Shoe Makeover {from blah to beauty}

I was rummaging through my closet one day when I found an old pair of black flats that I rarely wore anymore. I bought them from Urban Outfitters back in the day and they're made of that fake leather. They were a great deal and served me well for a while but they were pretty beat up and I wanted a change... so I decided they needed a makeover! I had seen some Mod Podge shoes and fabric covered shoes online and after browsing through some of JCrew's ridiculously priced flats I knew what I wanted to do. I removed the fake leather bow and used the tutorial over at Make It and Love It to cover them with one change. Instead of using Mod Podge to stick the fabric to the shoe I used Tacky Glue. I thought the Mod Podge would get too stiff underneath. I then sealed the fabric covered shoe with Mod Podge. Of course I had to have some embellishments. Picnic-check bloomers {J.crew knockoff}

Are these not completely adorable?!? These are the J.Crew little girls' Picnic-check bloomers. Yes entirely fantastic but seriously overpriced (sorry store that I love) and they were all sold out in the size I needed for my even more adorable niece. Soooo... I made them: Theirs were originally $59.50 on Sale for $29.99. I paid less than $15 (not sure exactly how much because I bought almost double the fabric and tons of elastic to stock up). I'm also working on a big sewing project for myself, well when I get the time or feel like it. So this was a nice break, they were so fast and easy! So I'm wrapping these up and giving them to my crazy beautiful niece for her 2nd birthday. I have to grab some pics of her wearing them soon! *Update: tutorial now available here !

Side Tie Bloomers {Tutorial}

Hello out there. Yes It's been forever (a whole year!) and sorry to say I'm not really coming back, especially since I now have a little one to love. But I forgot I did have this post in the drafts almost finished. So remember the Picnic-check Bloomers J.Crew Knockoff ? S ince I got a request recently for the tutorial, here it is... finally. Hopefully someone will find this useful. Although it's getting colder I thought these would be adorable layered with tights/leggings and little girl boots. Year round, bloomer cuteness! This pair is actually smaller than the originals I made, because i didn't have my niece around the first time to double check. You will need: Cotton Fabric (pre-washed, I think I used close to a yard) Matching thread Elastic 1/2" wide (for legs) Elastic 3/4" wide (for waist) Notes: Not included in each step is IRONING.
